Kate Wilcox is a visual artist with greatly varied interests. She started her journey with point and shoot type cameras but didn't really start focusing on her photography until she bought her first adjustable digital camera in 2003. After accumulating a collection of antique Nikon camera lenses, she purchased her first used Nikon dSLR camera body and began teaching herself manual photography so she could use her new tools productively.
Kate's photography experience broadened greatly when she began working at the University of New Hampshire and used her tuition benefit to take photography classes, learning SLR film photography including basic darkroom procedures, alternative photography techniques such as Salt Prints and Cyanotypes, and large format photography, purchasing her first 4x5 Busch Pressman camera, circa 1952. One of her next goals is to be able to develop the 4x5 sheet film at home.
Kate also continuously works with her newer Nikon equipment, often practicing Environmental Event photography including macro insect photography with the Maine Entomological Society or the Mount Washington Valley Butterfly Count. She continually hones her visual storytelling and is known for her details. She is grateful to be part of the Greater Rochester Camera Club where she is part of a really curious group of like-minded folks.
